Update:
This week I finished another skien of yarn and I am almost done with another one. I hoping to have to have this skein of yarn done by the end of the day. I also pulled apart and rolled up two more skeins of yarn to get ahead so I can work on the blanket a little more. Nothing has really changed or happened since last week. Here's an updated picture
Self-Determination, Motivation, and Autonomy:
Looking at self-determination, motivation, and autonomy in the participation of my occupation, they can all apply to it in at least one way. Self-determination is taking control of your own life, it looks at you needs, desires, interests, and strengths. Self-determination in crocheting for me would be when I picked it because I needed to look at what route I wanted to take when deciding as well as looking at my strengths to determine if I could do it. Motivation is the desire to reach a goal, it fits
in because I'm not just doing this for myself or a grade I am doing it for someone else. I want them to like it so it motivates me to work hard on it and do my best. Autonomy is the right to self-govern, it fits into my occupation because we were asked to pick something and it could be anything which gave me the right to choose what I wanted to do for my new occupation this semester.
Tristin,
ReplyDeleteI appreciated your definitions of the terms in your blog and your application to your new occupation. I think your evaluations of self-determination, motivation, and autonomy make sense. It is fantastic that you have some intrinsic motivation that pushes you to pursue this occupation beyond the extrinsic reward of a grade. I think your point on autonomy is interesting. I agree that we were all given the choice of selecting any new occupation, but once we made that choice, we have to stick with it. I've discovered for myself and from others that our ongoing pursuit of the occupation feels less autonomous. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts!
Hi Katie,
DeleteThanks for reading my blog! I think for me personally I don't feel as forced to engage in my occupation because I try to keep the mind set that this isn't forced. It's what I choose, but I also think that it helps that I choose something that helps connect me to home and brings good memories whenever I do it. There are definitely times where I force myself to work on it more because I've given myself a deadline, but I still have that autonomy because I can choose if I am actually going to engage in it. We always have a choose it just the matter of whether you want to or not.
